Your experience at MALO SMILES represents an extremely exciting time in your life. Not only are you receiving new teeth and seeing an end to your dental problems, you should also be gaining renewed self-confidence and a much improved quality of life! As with any big change in life, this period can also be a little scary, especially with the prospect of dental surgery added!
We have found that patient’s nerves are eased when they know what to expect, so we have included the answers to some important questions you should ask your doctor when considering dental implants.
1. Who will be doing my All-on-4® procedure and what are their credentials?
At MALO SMILES, all of our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and Prosthodontists have received individualized hands-on training in the All-on-4® dental implant method from the very man who pioneered the technique, Dr. Paulo Malo. Together they have decades’ worth of experience in the placement and restoration of dental implants.

Our doctors frequently work with patients’ existing dentists and are always more than happy to assist in the planning and delivery of your dental care.
2. How experienced are the oral surgeons at MALO SMILES?
Our dental healthcare professionals have treated thousands of patients with single or multiple missing teeth. In fact, several members of our expert team are recognized to be among the very best practicing professionals in their field, as voted by their peers, for several years running! They have experience across the full spectrum of patient care, from straightforward tooth replacement to complex full mouth reconstruction. So, no matter how bad you think your teeth may be, chances are they’ve seen and successfully treated worse!
3. Will I be anesthetized during my surgery?
Typically, in addition to receiving local anesthesia during your procedure, we can provide you with Intravenous (I.V.) sedation or even general anesthesia, which will help to alleviate any fear or anxiety you may experience. Rest assured, you should be comfortable and pain-free during the placement of your dental implants.
4. Do I need to go to different facilities or clinics throughout the course of my All-on-4® experience?
MALO SMILES is a state-of-the-art and comprehensive dental implant facility that houses absolutely everything you will need, from start to finish, to receive your brand new set of teeth. If you don’t have a current dentist you wish to work with, our team of experts can attend to your unique case all in one location, saving you the inconvenience of travelling to multiple locations to receive dental care.
We are also happy to work with your existing dentist, so that you can receive post-operative care and maintenance, as well as the fitting of your final permanent prosthetic bridge, in their office. If they are unfamiliar with the All-on-4® treatment, we can help them every step of the way! This is especially beneficial to patients who have travelled from outside New Jersey to receive treatment at MALO SMILES as it saves them from having to make repeat journeys to our facility throughout their care and follow up.
5. Will 3D CAT scan images be required for All-on-4® treatment? If so, where do I go to get these?
We do indeed take advantage of 3D imaging during the treatment planning phase of your All-on-4®. The good news is, first time patients of MALO SMILES get this completely free of charge as a part of their screening consultation with us! You don’t need to go anywhere else to have your scans done. MALO SMILES has our very own 3D CBCT scanner, which provides us with invaluable insight into how best to treat you using minimally invasive techniques, while ensuring the optimal success of the procedure.
6. Where do I go if my new teeth require adjustment or repair?
If your new teeth require repair or adjustment, you can simply return to MALO SMILES or to your existing dentist, provided that he or she has agreed to work with our specialists in the care and maintenance of your new All-on-4® bridge. At our cutting-edge facility, we also house a fully operational laboratory complete with the very latest technology in dental implant prosthetics. It is within the on-site lab that your custom made MALO CLINIC bridge will be fabricated. If you ever require any adjustments or repairs, you can either see your dentist, who often can do it right there in their office, or you can come back to MALO SMILES if necessary at any time!
7. Once my dental implants have been placed, how long do I have to wait before I can have my teeth put in?
In most dental implant cases, patients can undergo surgery AND receive a new set of teeth on the very same day! In the unlikely event that you require bone grafting surgery beforehand as a result of deteriorated jawbone health – advanced bone loss, poor quality or density bone – you may need to return to have your fixed (non-removable) bridge attached after complete healing or implant ‘integration’.
8. How much does the All-on-4® cost?
The cost of oral rehabilitation using the All-on-4® technique can vary from patient to patient depending upon the complexity of the case and if prior treatment is necessary due to severe gum disease or infection before we can proceed with implant placement. It also depends on the materials that are selected for use in the fabrication of the final fixed prosthetic bridge. Your dental implant team will discuss the All-on-4® costs with you in detail upon completion of your initial screening consultation with us. The fees quoted will include everything you need on your journey to a new smile.
If you are particularly concerned about the cost of the All-on-4®, MALO SMILES does offer flexible financing options that are tailor made to suit the individual’s means.
9. What does the follow-up care entail?
Once you have received your new teeth, you will need to return to MALO SMILES or your existing dentist for periodic maintenance, cleaning and follow-ups. As it was previously mentioned, we are more than happy to work with and, if he/she is unfamiliar, help train your current dentist in the All-on-4® technique so that you don’t need to come back to MALO SMILES subsequent to your actual surgery and initial healing, should this prove to be too inconvenient for you. This means that you will be able to receive the necessary post-operative care and maintenance from your very own dentist and even have your final bridge placed in their own office!
You are, of course, always welcome to come and see your MALO SMILES dental specialists for any adjustments, repairs and even advice if needed.
