At MALO, we pride ourselves on providing comprehensive dental care to our valued patients. Our Rutherford, NJ office is conveniently located along Route 17 North and is only a short trip from New York City.

Here are some of the services rendered in our office:

A comprehensive clinical exam is critical for every patient! At MALO, we provide our patients with a complete exam that includes evaluation of the head and neck, a periodontal (or gum) evaluation, examination of the teeth and a radiographic examination. X-rays, or radiographs, allow us to: 1. diagnose cavities, 2. look at the roots of your teeth, 3. check the level of bone supporting your teeth, 4. check the status of developing teeth, and 5. identify possible infection or lesions in the bone. While some x-ray radiation is absorbed by dense tissues such as teeth and bone, the use of digital x-rays has significantly reduced the amount of exposure to patients.

Routine dental cleanings are the key to maintaining a healthy mouth and smile. At MALO, we offer routine dental cleanings and periodontal treatment such as scaling and root planing, also referred to as “deep cleaning,” for those patients with more advanced gum disease. These procedures remove plaque and tartar build up from the teeth and are performed using manual tools or an ultrasonic device. Typically this is done every 6 months, but can vary depending on the patient’s needs.

A filling helps restore a tooth that is damaged by decay or fracture back to its original function and shape. MALO offers tooth colored resin fillings to insure optimal esthetics.

A crown is a tooth-shaped cover placed over a tooth that is badly damaged or decayed. Many people refer to it as a “cap.” Typically, the decay or fracture is so extensive that placement of a regular filling is not an option as it may further weaken the tooth. A crown may hold together parts of a cracked tooth or may be used to support a bridge. Crowns can also be used to improve appearance by covering misshapen or badly discolored teeth. Crowns may be fabricated onsite or at an outside laboratory and are available as: 1. all porcelain, 2. porcelain fused to metal, or 3. all gold. The MALO team will determine which option is best for you based upon your particular dental situation, esthetic needs and cost.

A bridge, also known as a fixed partial denture, is made to replace one or more missing teeth. A traditional bridge is made by creating a crown for the tooth on either side of the space and placing a replacement tooth or teeth between the crowns. The crowns, sometimes referred to as caps, can be supported by natural teeth or by implants.

Example of veneers.

Dental veneers are thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to your natural teeth. The natural teeth require minimal preparation, sometimes none at all. It is a very conservative approach to enhance your smile by providing more natural and youthful appearance. The two most common materials used in dental veneers are composite resin and porcelain. Composite veneers are placed chairside, while porcelain veneers are fabricated onsite and are bonded to the patient’s teeth at a subsequent visit.

A dental implant is a titanium post (like a tooth root) that is surgically positioned into the jawbone beneath the gum line that allows our dentist to mount a replacement tooth or a bridge, in the case of more than one implant being placed. An implant is fixed, meaning it isn’t removable and no adjacent teeth need to be prepared or ground down to hold your new replacement tooth/teeth in place. Dental implants is one of MALO’s specialties! Our All-on-4 ® dental implant method can give your smile back in just one day.

If a tooth has become decayed or fractured to the point where the tooth can no longer be repaired with either a filling or crown treatment, the tooth may need to be removed. This is a minor surgical procedure in which the tooth is removed from its socket in the bone.

Endodontic treatment involves treatment of the internal aspect of the tooth after the pulp or nerve tissue becomes inflamed or infected. The inflammation or infection can have a variety of causes: deep decay, repeated dental procedures on the tooth, trauma or cracks. If left untreated, pain or infection may result. Root canal treatment consists of one to two visits to clean and fill the internal aspect of the tooth.

While your teeth are not, by nature, perfectly white, most people feel that they could improve their smiles with brighter, whiter teeth. Over time, our teeth acquire extrinsic stains as a result of eating and drinking certain beverages. MALO offers a variety of ways to safely remove these stains leaving a whiter, more radiant smile.

For patients that do not want to undergo implant placement for the purpose of an All-on-4 or overdenture, conventional dentures can be fabricated to replace your missing teeth. While dentures take some getting used to, and will never feel exactly the same as one’s natural teeth, today’s dentures are natural looking and more comfortable than ever. There are two main types of dentures: complete or partial, depending on whether all or some of your teeth are missing. MALO will help you choose the type of denture that’s best for you based on your needs and the associated cost.
